Google Maps API pricing Free caps per SKU, then a price per 1,000.

It depends on the SKU. Since 1 March 2025 Google Maps Platform gives each core SKU a free monthly cap instead of the old $200 credit: 10,000 calls for Essentials, 5,000 for Pro and 1,000 for Enterprise. After that, as of October 2026, a Place Details Pro call is $17 per 1,000 and reviews sit in the dearest tier.

When Google's API is the right tool

If you show a map, autocomplete addresses, route people or put place details in front of users inside your app, use Google Maps Platform. Those are what it is built and licensed for, and the free caps cover a lot of small apps.

A data API fits a different job: building a list of businesses in an area, reading many reviews per place, or keeping the rows to analyse later.

Questions people ask.

Is the $200 Google Maps credit gone?

Yes. Google's billing FAQ says that from 1 March 2025 the $200 monthly credit was replaced by a free monthly usage threshold for each core SKU.

Do I need a credit card for the Google Maps API?

To use the Places API you must enable billing on your project, per Google's usage and billing page. Google also offers a demo key for trying it.

Why are reviews more expensive?

Asking for the reviews field puts a Place Details, Text Search or Nearby Search call in the Enterprise + Atmosphere SKU, the highest tier.

What does Google Maps data cost here?

Priced per record, from $0.000225 per record. Quote any call first with estimateOnly, which is free.

The playground runs any endpoint by hand: pick a platform and what you want from it, fill a short form named in plain words (or press Use sample input), see the free quote on the Run button, run it, then read the answer as a table or JSON and download it as CSV or JSON. The same call is written out as cURL, Python and Node while you type.

Why people pick API for Agents

  • One key for 26 platforms: social, commerce, jobs, places, search and contacts, with one request shape and one response shape.
  • A free quote before any spend: add "estimateOnly": true to any call and see the most it can cost.
  • Pay per record in US dollars. No subscription, nothing expires, top-ups from $5.
  • $0.10 free to try, no card. An AI agent can sign itself up in one request; a person claims it later.
  • Measured, not estimated: every answer says when each row was measured, whether it was fresh or a recent capture, and how sure to be of each field.
  • Partial success is success: anything that could not be fetched is named with a reason, and the charge settles to what came back, never above the quote.
  • Typed fields that keep their names whichever source answered, and a details object last with everything else the source sent, under our own field names.
  • Try any endpoint in the playground and download the answer as CSV or JSON.
