The best web search APIs for AI agents.

For an AI agent, the best web search source is Google web search, because it returns ranked links with titles, snippets, related questions and searches, and accepts the operators agents already know (site:, intitle:, OR). Google News is best for anything dated, Shopping for prices and Images for pictures with their source pages.

List prices are per record and some calls carry a minimum. Quote any call first with "estimateOnly": true: the quote is free and is the most the call can cost.

Each source, in order

1. Google web search

Up to five pages per call, billed per page of about ten results. Filter by country, language, one site, a date range, file type, or sites similar to a domain. It returns links and snippets, not the page text, so fetch the pages you need.

2. Google News

News articles for a query, filtered to the last hour, day, week or year, by country and language. Use it when the agent must know what changed recently.

3. Google Shopping

Shopping offers for a query, filtered by country, language and how recent. One call shows what several merchants charge for the same thing.

4. Google Images

Image results for a query, each with the page it came from and its size. It takes a query and a limit only.

How to choose

  • Facts and sources: web search, with site: or the site filter when the agent knows where to look.
  • Recent events: News with posted-within.
  • What people think, not what pages say: add Reddit search or X post search.
  • Every call can be quoted first and capped with maxUsd, so a looping agent cannot overspend.

The operations on this list

Questions people ask.

Can my agent pay for search on its own?

Yes. It signs itself up, starts with $0.10 free, quotes each call with "estimateOnly": true and spends a prepaid balance. Only a person can add money.

Can the agent search one site only?

Yes: write site: in the query, or set the site filter to a domain or path such as reddit.com.

Does it return the page content?

No. Web search returns links, titles, snippets, domains and rank. The agent fetches the pages it needs.

Can I search news from the last hour?

Yes. Google News takes posted-within of one hour, one day, seven days, one year or any time.

The playground runs any endpoint by hand: pick a platform and what you want from it, fill a short form named in plain words (or press Use sample input), see the free quote on the Run button, run it, then read the answer as a table or JSON and download it as CSV or JSON. The same call is written out as cURL, Python and Node while you type.

Why people pick API for Agents

  • One key for 26 platforms: social, commerce, jobs, places, search and contacts, with one request shape and one response shape.
  • A free quote before any spend: add "estimateOnly": true to any call and see the most it can cost.
  • Pay per record in US dollars. No subscription, nothing expires, top-ups from $5.
  • $0.10 free to try, no card. An AI agent can sign itself up in one request; a person claims it later.
  • Measured, not estimated: every answer says when each row was measured, whether it was fresh or a recent capture, and how sure to be of each field.
  • Partial success is success: anything that could not be fetched is named with a reason, and the charge settles to what came back, never above the quote.
  • Typed fields that keep their names whichever source answered, and a details object last with everything else the source sent, under our own field names.
  • Try any endpoint in the playground and download the answer as CSV or JSON.
