# A Proxycurl alternative an agent can buy itself.

> Proxycurl shut down in July 2025. A LinkedIn data API for people, companies, posts and jobs: $0.004 a profile, $5 to start, quote first.

Canonical: https://apiforagents.dev/alternatives/proxycurl · Updated 2026-10-22

Proxycurl closed on 4 July 2025. If your product or your agent still needs LinkedIn profiles, companies and jobs by API, this is how we compare, what changes in your code, and when another option fits better.

- Profiles from: $0.004
- To start: $5
- Free trial: $0.10
- Facts checked: October 2026

> **The short answer** API for Agents is not a drop-in Proxycurl replacement: the request shape is different, so expect to change a few lines. In return you pay per record from $5 with no plan, see the exact price before each call, and an agent can start on its own.

## API for Agents and Proxycurl, side by side

Their side is from their own pages, linked below, as seen on 16 October 2026. Prices change: check the source before you decide.

|  | API for Agents | Proxycurl |
|---|---|---|
| Billing | Per record, pay as you go | Closed: no longer sold |
| To start paying | $5 top-up, no plan | n/a |
| Agent signs itself up | Yes: one POST, a person claims it later | n/a |

## When Proxycurl is the better pick

- Proxycurl itself is not an option: it stopped serving on 4 July 2025, its founder wrote.
- If you need wire compatibility with old Proxycurl code, look for a provider that claims it and test the claim; we do not.
- If you need emails or phone numbers inside every profile row: here a profile does not carry them, and the contacts endpoint looks up a work email and mobile number one person at a time, priced per call.

## When API for Agents is the better pick

- You want to pay per record with no subscription and no commitment, from $5.
- Your agent should be able to sign up, quote and run on its own, inside a budget you set.
- You want each answer to say when it was measured and what is missing, not just a 404.

## Moving common calls over

What you used to fetch, and the operation that returns it here.

| You fetched | Here | Price |
|---|---|---|
| A person's profile by LinkedIn URL | op: profiles, subjects: [url or handle] | $0.004 |
| A company profile | op: companies | $0.004 |
| People at a company, by role | op: searchPeople, company, titles | $0.004 per profile |
| Company search | op: searchCompanies | $0.004 per company |
| Job listings | op: jobs | $0.001 per listing |
| A person's posts | op: posts | $0.002 per post |

## What you get with API for Agents, whichever you pick

- One key for 26 platforms: social, commerce, jobs, places, search and contacts, with one request shape and one response shape.
- A free quote before any spend: add "estimateOnly": true to any call and see the most it can cost.
- Pay per record in US dollars. No subscription, nothing expires, top-ups from $5.
- $0.10 free to try, no card. An AI agent can sign itself up in one request; a person claims it later.
- Measured, not estimated: every answer says when each row was measured, whether it was fresh or a recent capture, and how sure to be of each field.
- Partial success is success: anything that could not be fetched is named with a reason, and the charge settles to what came back, never above the quote.
- Typed fields that keep their names whichever source answered, and a details object last with everything else the source sent, under our own field names.
- Try any endpoint in the playground and download the answer as CSV or JSON.

## Try it before you move anything

quote a profile, free:

```bash
curl -s -X POST https://apiforagents.dev/agent/identity -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d '{"type":"anonymous"}'
# exchange identity_assertion at /oauth2/token, then:
curl -s -X POST https://apiforagents.dev/v1/linkedin -H "Authorization: Bearer $AFA_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"op":"profiles","subjects":["satyanadella"],"estimateOnly":true}'
```

## Questions

### Why did Proxycurl shut down?

Its founder wrote on 4 July 2025 that LinkedIn sued Proxycurl in January 2025 and that Proxycurl was closing to comply with the settlement. LinkedIn announced the case resolved on 28 July 2025.

### Will my Proxycurl API key work here?

No. Make a key here, or let your agent sign itself up. The requests are JSON with an op field; the table above maps the common ones.

### Is this affiliated with Proxycurl or LinkedIn?

No. We are an independent API and not affiliated with or endorsed by either.

## Start

The playground runs any endpoint by hand: pick a platform and what you want from it, fill a short form named in plain words (or press Use sample input), see the free quote on the Run button, run it, then read the answer as a table or JSON and download it as CSV or JSON. The same call is written out as cURL, Python and Node while you type. Open it at https://apiforagents.dev/dashboard/run (sign in first).

Agents register at https://apiforagents.dev/auth.md (one POST, $0.10 free). People: https://apiforagents.dev/docs#start. Prices: https://apiforagents.dev/pricing.md
